PURPOSE:To improve performance of speed change operation, by forming a speed change operating means out of a stroke contact type switch that can be mounted on the side surface of a steering column, and by arranging the switch at a position where a driver can directly see it through a steering wheel in a proceeding mode. CONSTITUTION:An automatic transmission for vehicle is provided with an actuator that drives a hydraulic valve for changing-over its running ranges, and the actuator is controlled according to a range change-over command given by a speed change operating means. The speed change operating mans is com posed of an operation switch 18 that can be mounted on the side surface of a steering column 58. The operation switch 18 is composed of a switch main body 66 that can stroke-move in a moving route for which each range of P, R, N, D, 2, 1 is determined in order, as well as a finger operation part 68 pro truded from the switch main body 66. the operation switch 18 is arranged at a position where a driver can directly see it through a steering wheel 56 in a proceeding mode. |
