Within the reaction space (16), a spark gap (10) is established between an earthed portion (9) of the structure and the tip of an ignition electrode (7) fed by an electric conductor (6) from a high-voltage pulse generator (12). The conductor (6) is sheathed and insualted by a fibre-optic bundle (1) with a plane face (3) towards the reaction space (16), and the other ends of the fibres (2) optically coupled (17, 19) to optoelectronic converters (11). USE/ADVANTAGE - Highly reliable ignitor-monitor combination is easily integrated into construction of burner without detriment to outflow.
