The differential drive for a motor vehicle consists of a housing formed in two similar parts (13) which are bolted together with a ring gear between the joint faces. The ring gear (3) has external teeth which mesh with the driving pinion (2). The differential drive has two output shafts. The first output shaft (4) is formed integrally with the sun wheel (6) whilst the second output shaft (5) is formed integrally with the cage which carries the planet gears (8, 9). The planet gears (8, 9) are arranged in pairs with the members of each pair meshing with each other. One member (8) meshes with the sun wheel and the other meshes with the internal teeth of the ring gear. The housing (13) contains a liquid and the planet pinions function as a gear teeth pump. The pressure generated by the planet pinions increases with the difference in SlW0en lhe lWO Output ShaftS nd lOCks the planet pinions to limit this difference in speed.
