PURPOSE:To enable the capacity of a battery to be determined without hysteresis by measuring the physical value (index of refraction, viscosity) of negative electrode solution which depends on both zinc ion concentration and complexing agent concentration. CONSTITUTION:The physical value of negative electrode solution is measured by a means 18 wherein the aforesaid value corresponds to both of the zinc ion concentration and the complexing agent concentration of negative electrode solution, and remaining capacity is determined by an operating means 19 based on the relation between the physical value prepared in advance and remaining capacity. The physical value measuring means 18 is arranged onto a negative electrode solution storing tank or onto a piping section 12 communicating negative electrode solution storing tank with a negative electrode chamber 6 wherein both of the tank and the piping section indicate the average composition of negative electrode solution. This thereby enables remaining capacity with no hysteresis to be obtained, and the remaining capacity can be determined regardless of its service condition, that is, such as charging, discharging, cessation and the like. |
