PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal display with high contrast and low visual angle dependency by using plural uniaxial roll resin sheets with specific double refracting anisotropy by crossing their roll shafts as a phase plate to be inserted between a torsion nematic liquid crystal layer with double refraction property and a polarizer. CONSTITUTION:The torsion nematic liquid crystal layer 1 with double refraction property, the polarizers 2, 3 arranged so as to sandwich the liquid crystal layer 1, and the phase plates 4, 5 inserted between the liquid crystal layer 1 and the polarizer 2 are provided, and as the phase plates 4, 5, the plural uniaxial roll resin sheets with double refracting anisotropy DELTAn.d>=340nm are used by crossing their roll shafts. Thereby, since the number of phase plates is reduced, and high double refracting anisotropy is obtained, transmissivity is increased, and the contrast is intensified, and also, since the roll shaft of the phase plate in lateral and oblique directions is left as being extended, the low visual angle dependency is attained. |
