According to the present invention, novel oil soluble compositions useful as dispersants are provided by reaction of a mono- or polycarboxylic acid acylating reactant with at least one heterocyclic polyol of the formula: <CHEM> wherein R<1>, R<2>, R<3> and R<4> are the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of H, alkyl and -CH(OH)R<5>, wherein R<5> is C1 to C10 alkyl, and wherein X and Y are the same or different and are H or C1 to C10 alkyl, with the proviso that at least one of R<1>, R<2>, R<3> and R<4> is the -CH(OH)R<5> moiety. |
