PURPOSE: To facilitate bending and retaining a hose in a desired contour by providing a prereinforced tube which is longitudinally oriented with a hose in a sidewall between a fibrous reinforcement and a cover, a reformable rod inserted and disposed in a precured elastomeric tube at the intermediate of cuff ends, and a helical wire. CONSTITUTION: A sidewall(S) of a hose is formed by a tuber 12, a cover 14 surrounding and reinforcing the tuber, and a fibrous reinforcement 16 sandwiched therebetween, and the tube 12 and the cover 14 are made from elastomer. For a hose of the corrugated type, the hose sidewall is formed into cuff ends 20, 22 and an intermediate corrugated sidewall 24 that is in the form of helix or successive annular peaks and valleys. The corrugated sidewall 24 inhibits kinking when the hose is bent by inserting a helical spring 26 in the bore of the hose. A reformable rod 30, such as made of wire, is inserted in the precured tube in the intermediate corrugated sidewall at the cuff ends. When the hose is bent, the reformable rod forms a bent portion 34 to retain the hose in a curved configuration 36. |
