PURPOSE:To prevent generation of a malfunction in picture processing due to a background other than a major object or the like by recognizing a picture pattern of a focused part in a photographing pattern in two dimension and in real time. CONSTITUTION:A detection means 10 detecting a signal representing a focus to an object from a picture signal outputted from an image pickup means 2 and a means 12 recognizing the two dimensional distribution state of the focus detected by the detection means 10 on the pickup face are provided and the shape and position of the two dimensional pattern of the focused object are recognized in a real time and a focus detection area or the like is set adaptively. Thus, the object is continuously focused without being affected by the object other than the target. |
