<PICT:0816546/IV (c)/1> Webs of fabric to be dyed are suspended in a closed vessel above the level of any dyeing liquor standing in the bottom of the vessel and are subjected to a spray of dyeing liquor directed downwardly from the top of the vessel, used liquor being extracted from the bottom of the vessel and recirculated by a pump. Preferably, dyeing is carried out at a pressure greater than atmospheric, whereby the dyeing liquor may be heated to at least 140 DEG C. As shown, a closed vessel 1 is provided with vertically spaced upper and lower support members 5A, 5B, between which webs of fabric are suspended, and a liquid spray distributer comprising chamber c and perforated plate d, beneath which is located a strainer of fine mesh wire gauze, mounted above the webs of fabric so as to direct a spray of dyeing liquor over them. There is also provided a circulation system comprising pump 2, valve 2C and pipes 2A, 2B for transporting dyeing liquor from the base of vessel 1 to the chamber c, preferably via a central tube 5. A separate reservoir 3, containing dyeing liquor, and an auxiliary pump 6 connected through pipes 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and valves 9, 11, 13, 15, 17 to pipe 2A of the circulation system may also be provided, so that fresh dyeing liquor may be introduced into and spent dyeing liquor extracted from the vessel 1. |
