PURPOSE:To prepare a catalytic functional material at high productivity by adding to a slurry a coagulant obtained by mixing and dispersing an inorganic fiber, an inorganic binder, and a catalystic powder, forming a sheet-like body from the resulting coagulated material, and calcining the sheet. CONSTITUTION:A slurry is prepared by mixing and dispersing at least an inorganic fiber, an inorganic binder, and a catalytic powder and after the slurry is coagulated by addition of a coagulant, a sheet-like body is prepared by a paper manufacturing method. Then, after the sheet-like body is corrugated, a honeycomb structure body 1 is prepared. The honeycomb structure body 1 is fired at 500-800 deg.C to give a catalytic functional material. The inorganic fiber to be used preferably has at most 100mum average diameter. A low melting point glass powder, alumina sol, and colloidal silica are among preferable examples of the inorganic binder. |
