A method of removing a water insoluble surface coating from a surface comprising applying to the coating a formulation comprising between about 0.25 weight percent to about 90.0 weight percent of a fatty acid selected from the group consisting of unsaturated fatty acids, saturated fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids and mixtures thereof, an organic or inorganic alkaline builder present in an amount effective to saponify the fatty acid and still maintain the constituents in solution, and the balance of the formulation is water. |
