ANISOLE DERIVATIVES There is provided a novel anisole derivative represented by the following formula (I): (I) wherein A to D are defined as follows: (1) when A, B and C are each a hydrogen atom, D represents -OH, a halogen atom, -CO2R1 of which R1 represents a lower alkyl group, -SO2R2 of which R2 represents a lower alkyl group, or ; (2) when A and C are each a hydrogen atom and B is -OH, D represents -CO2R3 of which R3 represents a lower alkyl group; (3) when A is a hydrogen atom and B and C form an oxo group =O together, D reprcsents -CO2R4 of which R4 represents a lower alkyl group; and (4) when B and C are each a hydrogen atom and D is a halogen atom, A represents -CHO. The anisole derivative of the present invention can be used as an intermediate for the synthesis of cotarnine.
