PURPOSE:To eliminate the need of the accurate detection of toner density and to reduce the cost of a sensor by collating a prescribed pattern stored in a pattern storage means with a pattern read by a pattern read means and deciding the toner concentration according to the coincidence or the noncoincidence between them. CONSTITUTION:The image of the prescribed pattern formed by an image forming means 2 is read as a binary image and the pattern of the binary image is collated with the original pattern of the binary image stored in the memory (the pattern storage means) 6. Then, when two patterns are coincident with each other as the collated result, the density of the toner is decided to be normal. When in the case of noncoincide it is decided to be lower. At this time, since the image of a reference pattern is read by the pattern read means 4 as the binary image, the measuring fluctuation of the sensor does not generate a problem. Thus, the high accuracy becomes unnecessary and the cost of the sensor is reduced. |
