PURPOSE:To perform smooth focus adjusting operation by initializing a selected area and performing new selecting operation when the focal length of a photographic lens varies exceeding a specific quantity. CONSTITUTION:An MSK is a visual field mask, an FLDL is a field lens, and a DP is a stop. Then AFLs are secondary image forming lenses consisting of four couples of eight lenses and arranged behind the stop DP corresponding to respective openings of the stop DP and SNSs are sensors consisting of four couples of eight sensor arrays and arranged corresponding to the secondary image forming lenses AFLs so as to photodetect their images. The focus detecting device inhibits new selecting operation from being performed when a subject area (sensor) in the center of a picture plane is selected and a detecting means 102 inputs the focal length (f) of the photographic lens 101 to discriminate whether the difference from last focal length information exceeds the specific quantity, and release the inhibiting operation of an inhibiting means 104 when the specific quantity is exceeded to perform new selecting operation. Consequently, the smooth focus adjusting operation is performed. |
