Each message-building block (10) has a visible numerical or alphanumeric display (11) of information transmitted from a digital computer (12) over output channels (16) with e.g. RS422A standard serial interfaces to symmetrical two-wire data lines (13) serving up to 10 blocks, energised (14) from a mains power unit (15). The block (10) incorporates a microprocessor programmed e.g. by rotary microswitches to select for display (11) only a limited section of the string of serial data sent from the computer (12) to all blocks. ADVANTAGE - Loss or precision through additional A/D conversion is avoided at very low cost of wiring.
