Forming sealing structure under contaminated ground - uses tunnel-shaped pits on sealing section either side with three coupling lines

The sealing of a layer of contaminated soil to prevent the seepage of contaminated water forms two parallel tunnels (2), excavated below the edges of the contaminated area (1). A cross-tunnel (8), connecting the two parallel tunnels (3) is then excavated. A second cross tunnel (3), which in effect doubles the width of the first cross-tunnel, is next excavated. A third cross-tunnel is then excavated, whilst the first cross-tunnel is back filled and a layer of waterproof material is placed over the back filling. ADVANTAGE - Simple process for easy mechanical erection.
