The skateboard (1) is supported by springs (20) on two axles (6) so that the distance between the board and the axle can be varied. At least one of the axles (6) has a roller (4`) which carries a toothed wheel (10) whcih encloses a free wheel. This toothed wheel engages a toothed rack (11) which is fastened directly to the underside of the skateboard. The rack can be made to drive the toothed wheel and roller (4`) by the skater who changes his or her position on the skateboard so that the degree of compression of the spring (20) is varied.
