The strings are tensioned (6) and struck by hammers (8) in the vicinity of a pick-up (3) in response to depression of keys (5) in a recess (10) suitably positioned for the right hand of the player. A rocking bar (14) corresp. to each key (5) incorporates a transverse bore (25) in which a lifter (22) can rotate about a vertical axis, causing a soft rubber or felt roller (24) to move the hammer (8) whose head (21) impacts the string.
