PURPOSE:To prevent the clogging of the catalyst elements in the second stage on in the gas flow direction by making the space between the catalyst elements of the adjacent catalyst packs specified times as great as the equivalent diameter of the opening of the cell of the element. CONSTITUTION:Plural catalyst elements 14-16 having a cell with both ends opened are provided, the axes of the elements 14-16 are directed in parallel with the gas flow direction, and plural catalyst packs 4-6 are arranged in the gas flow direction. The space 17 between the elements 14-16 of the packs 4-6 is made <=40 times as great as the equivalent diameter of the opening of the cell. A soot blower 10 for injecting a fluid catalyst into the cell opening on the gas inlet side is provided on the upstream side of the uppermost catalyst pack 4. Consequently, the clogging of the elements from the second stage on in the gas flow direction is prevented, and the clogging of the uppermost element is obviated by the soot blower on the upstream side of the element. |
