The invention concerns a bistable magnetic drive with a composite solenoid armature (3, 4) comprising a high-strength disc-shaped permanent magnet (3) with two shaped pole pieces (4, 4'), the armature moving beside the coil (1), perpendicular to the coil axis, inside an annular electromagnetic ring pole (Rp) between two electromagnetic impact poles (5, 5'). Described are embodiments and examples of applications of this drive as a solenoid and oscillating magnet, and a circuit for d.c. operation. A condensor circuit also permits monostable operation. The advantages of the invention are the magnet's light armature, its high efficiency, the fact that it can act on both sides, its versatility and its simplicity.
