The engine camshaft (1) drive has shaft rotation acting w.r.t. a coaxial drive wheel (7). The latter has an annular piston (12), sliding coaxially to the camshaft in a mating chamber (8), coupled between them by mating gear tooth sets in pairs (18,19; 21,22) with different pitch angles. A cylindrical component is screwed onto the drive end of the camshaft, and has a peripheral wall (5) concentric to the latter, forming the annular chamber and one set of teeth (25) for the first pair. A washer (9), screwed to the component shuts off the annular chamber, apart from an annular gap (10), through which a hollow cylindrical extension (15) on the piston passes. ADVANTAGE - Simple design and short axial length.
