The steering servo cylinder (6) is controlled via a proportional valve (150), whose two sections are linked by sprung elements. The valve is operated w.r.t. the mechanical force on the steering, and operates above a set force. The sprung element is inhibited, or the set pressure increased, by a linkage to the vehicle speed related monitor. A servomotor in the correction linkage can alter the sprung setting of the spring element, thus effectively increasing the pressure threshold above which the servo effect operates.
