(A) prodn. of a solid electrolyte of an ion conductor-contg. plastics, used esp. for reference electrodes or oxygen electrodes in analytical chemistry, involves (a) terminating the plastics prodn. process prior to the purifcn. and rinsing step normally used to remove ion conductive, otherwise deleterious material (KCl) from the plastics matrix; (b) adding a solvent; (c) adding fine ion conductive material powder to supersaturation; and (d) hardening the resulting plastics from conductor mixt. in which the conductor is combined directly in the plastics matrix. (B) a solid electrolyte, produced by the process is also claimed. ADVANTAGE - The process produces a solid electrolyte which combines perfect ion conducting properties with high vol. constancy. The solid electrolyte can avoid the need for a conventional diaphragm in the electrode.
