The licence number reading system uses a reading lens attached to a carriage at the rear of a camera lens at the focus of the latter, with automatic adjustment of the carriage under control of a range indicator using a regulated drive for tracking the licence numbers. The latter are evaluated by a computer coupled to the camera. Pref. the scanned licence numbers can also be displayed on a monitor screen.
