A mechanism for transmitting torque from one shaft (11) to another shaft (12) includes a formation (15) attached to one shaft (11), the formation (15) defining a plurality of cylindrical surfaces (16) each having radius R, the axes of the cylindrical surfaces (16) being parallel and disposed at angularly spaced locations about a circle of radius M, each cylindrical surface (16) is engaged by a cylindrical bearing formation (25) attached to the other shaft (12), each bearing formation (25) having a radius r and being disposed in similar angular relationship to the cylindrical surfaces (16) about a circle of axis inclined at angle alpha to the axes of the cylindrical surfaces (16), the radius of the circle upon which the bearing formations (25) are disposed being equal to M/(1 + cos alpha ) and the radius R of the cylindrical surfaces (16) being equal to r + M(1 - cos alpha )/(1 + cos alpha ). <IMAGE> |
