PURPOSE:To obtain reinforced carbon fibers having excellent strength and heat resistance, by adsorbing an ultrafine inorganic substance produced in a liquid dispersion system of carbon fibers on the above-mentioned carbon fibers and coating the fibers therewith. CONSTITUTION:For example, aluminum chloride, is added to an aqueous system containing carbon fibers dispersed therein and aqueous ammonia is then added to deposit ultrafine particles having <=15Angstrom minor axis and <=1,000Angstrom major axis. The resultant ultrafine particles are then adsorbed to coat the carbon fibers. The obtained reinforced carbon fibers have improved strength and excellent heat resistance without recognized weight loss even by heating at 400 deg.C for 10hr and are suitable as a material for aerial flying bodies, such as airplane, space equipment or rocket. |
