The present invention provides antitumor 4 -Demethylepipodophyllotoxin glycosides characterized by the fact that the glycoside moiety is altrose. <CHEM> wherein R<3> is selected from the group consisting of (C1-C10) alkyl, phenyl, furyl and 2-thienyl; wherein one of R<4> and R<5> is selected from the group consisting of hydroxy, C1-5alkoxy, C1-5acyloxy; and the other is selected from the group consisting of H, hydroxy, C1-5alkoxy, C1-5acyloxy, F, azido, and amino; of one of R<4> and R<5> is F and the other is selected from the group consisting of azido and amino; and R<6> is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, P(O)(OH)2 and alkali or alkaline earth metal salts thereof. |
