CONSTITUTION:Sound generating method specification information and sound generation information are held in a synthesis parameter memory 1 and a sound generation channel dividing means 4 divides sound generation channels into sound generation channels for a main channel and a subordinate channel at the start of operation according to the maximum number of generated sounds which is supplied from outside and musical sound information on the maximum channel among respective musical sounds. It is decided whether or not sound generation is possible over the main channel according to ON information and when the sound generation is possible, a main channel control means 5 generates a period component over the sound generation channel of the main channel and decides whether or not sound generation is possible over the subordinate channel corresponding to the musical sound information. When the sound generation is impossible, OFF processing is performed according to the order of sound generation stored in the assignment memory 3 to generate a sound with the waveform of a non-period component. Consequently, synthesized sounds are obtained most effectively by the determined maximum number of simultaneously generated sounds.
