PURPOSE: To provide an X-ray image without compressing the mamma by producing a second signal by which the peripheral part of a target object is discriminated in response to a first signal from detecting means and by which the position of the peripheral part is indicated, by controlling second driving means for positioning a damping plate to the peripheral part of the target object, and by damping the radiation at the outside of the object. CONSTITUTION: An X-ray tube 50 is positioned on a film table 24, and X-ray beams 52 are radiated toward a target region 54. After passed through a slit 56, the beams are directed toward a target 60 and are hit on a grid 62. The grid 62 reduces the reach of scattered radiation on a film cassette 64 that is positioned on the underside of the target 60 within the film table 24. An X-ray detector 114 produces a signal indicating the X-ray radiation intensity that reaches the detector passing through the target region. In the case of a single detector, the thickest part of the mamma must be aligned to the center of the detector. The single detector is substituted by the arrays 116 of strip-shaped detectors, so that the centering operation of the target by the operator ca be eliminated. |
