PURPOSE:To efficiently modify design by combining information required for design, information including a relation expression and the like as input and output information, storing the combination in terms of plural hierarchical structure and storing hierarchical structure which alters the hierarchical structure and which consists of other combination. CONSTITUTION:Input information consisting of a data value required for design and related information, and output information such as design information are combined and are stored in an information storage device 15 in terms of plural hierarchical structure. Then, a storage means storing control knowledge altering the hierarchical structure by the prescribed combination of input output information and an altered hierarchical structure storage means are provided for the device 15. Altered hierarchical structure in the device 15 is selectively made efficient in a knowledge control part 17 based on information from an input device 11, design is modified and a display device 13 is caused to display information.
