The observation device comprises at least one light source (2), a camera or observation apparatus (3), and a spherical or ovoid cavity (4) provided with a first opening (5) in the region of a first bottom portion (8) intended for the insertion of the shiny body (1) to be observed and for the passage of light rays and of the optical path necessary for the observation or the taking of a photograph, the size of the cavity (4) being large compared to the size of the shiny body (1) and the internal wall (6) of the said cavity being matt and reflective. The light source (2) consists of at least one optical fibre which is placed outside the cavity (1) around the first opening (5) of the cavity (4) and has an angle of incidence such that the light rays illuminate indirectly the body to be observed, after several reflections off the internal wall (6) of the cavity, in such a way that no area of the body to be examined can behave as a mirror, and that all the details of its surface become perfectly observable. <IMAGE>
