PURPOSE:To obtain hybrid yarn suitably useful as a material for fiber-reinforced metal by sticking a substance lying between matters, comprising a self lubricating substance to the surface of continuous inorganic yarn to constitute yarn bundle with a binder. CONSTITUTION:Continuous inorganic yarn 1 (e.g. alumina yarn or silica yarn) to constitute yarn bundle is introduced to a treating bath 4 comprising a suspension containing a substance lying between matters, such as graphite or boron nitride in an organic solvent by pulleys 5, 6, 7 and 8 and the substance lying between matters is stuck to the surface of yarn. Then the yarn is dried by a furnace 11 and brought into contact with opening rollers 16, 17, 18 and 19. The yarn bundle is opened to give uniformly opened hybrid yarn without causing breaking of yarn. The hybrid yarn is used as a reinforcing material to give FRM having excellent flexural strength. |
