PURPOSE: To sufficiently increase the specific absorbing power by the use of a small amount of fibrous material by making up of a tampon of preforms each of which is composed of a soft fibrous structure that is radially extended to the outside of the central fiber core of nearly circular form, and that is separated to each other by grooves, and longitudinal crease having a coarser capillary tube structure. CONSTITUTION: A preform 15 is made up of a nearly cylindrical fibrous core 16 at the center having a high compressive, high stable, or high buckling strength, and longitudinal creases 17 that are radially extended outward from the fibrous core 16 and each of which has a fibrous structure softer than the fibrous core, and accordingly which has a coarser capillary tube structure. The longitudinal creases 17 are separated each other by outwardly opened longitudinal grooves 18. The radial outside end 20 of the longitudinal crease 17 is formed to have substantially soft, smooth, cylindrical surface of a relatively small diameter in accordance with the final shape of the tampon 10, so that only the soft longitudinal creases 17 of the preform 15 are exposed to radial, low, and uniform pressure with regard to the longitudinal central axis 19 of the preform 15. |
