This invention concerns inducing resistance to infection by a pathogenic retrovirus of a differentiable cell, or by a variant thereof, by introducing a gene derived from the pathogenic retrovirus DNA into the cell and coding for a packaging glycoprotein of this retrovirus, the gene being under the control of a promoter enabling transcription and expression of this gene in these cells.
