The invention relates to apparatuses of the ultrasound type which are used in medical diagnostics. The apparatus is characterised in that it comprises first means (13) for instigating movements of the tissues of the breast (12) to be examined, and second means (21, 26) for measuring locally the rates of displacement of the tissues and determining the differences in the rates of displacement which are characteristic of cysts and/or tumours. The second means comprise a device for emission, reception and processing of ultrasound signals, which device is connected to a unit (26) for processing and visualisation. <IMAGE>
