A batch of rod-like articles, e.g. cigarettes, is wrapped in a sheet 1 of flexible material having a pair of slits 4 at each of two sides of the wrapper and extending transversely to the length of the wrapper which is folded to U-shape about the batch 6 by advancing the batch against the wrapper 1 and between parallel surfaces 7, the flaps 5 between each pair of slits 4 being bent at 90 degrees to the plane of the wrapper before it is folded to U-shape so that they lie in advance of the U, Fig. 3, the portions 8 then being folded against the batch and the flaps 5 being folded through 180 degrees, Fig. 6. Portions 9 may be folded against the batch before or after the flaps 5 are folded there against as shown in Figs. 6 and 7 respectively. In a modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), the slits 4 diverge inwardly. |
