A circuit for compensating a chrominance signal in a video recorder/player of the SECAM or MESECAM type operating according to a long-duration reproduction mode comprising: a means (30) for detecting a carrier frequency; a means (40) for converting a carrier frequency; a means (40) for selecting a carrier frequency; and a compensation discrimination means (50). The circuit supplies the chrominance signal, the carrier frequency of which is alternated on each period of the horizontal synchronisation signals 1H when the video recorder/player reproduces a video tape at variable speed in long-duration reproduction mode, and, that being so, reproduces images having good colour quality. <IMAGE>
