PURPOSE:To hold an optical fiber below safety temperature and prevent it from damaging owing to heat in welding by interposing a overheating mitigating material between the jacket tube and optical fiber, and mutually welding jacket tubes. CONSTITUTION:The coated optical fiber 1 is inserted into a jacket tube 2 made of soft steel through a copper tube 4 and the jacket tube 2 is plasma-joined with a sleeve 3 to constitute a connection part. The sleeve 3 is a soft steel tube and a collar 5 is provided by welding. The coated optical fiber 1 is led out of the end part of the jacket tube 2, which is sheathed with the sleeve 3; while the fiber 1 is run through the tube 2, the copper tube 4 is inserted into the jacket tube 2. After fibers 1 are joined with each other, the steel tube 4 is moved and the sleeve 3 is further moved to superpose the collar 5 on the join part. In welding, the end surface of the sleeve 3 is fixed by spot welding in the order of positions W00, W20, W10, and W30 and then the entire periphery is welded by using DC plasma. |
