Organic fume pollutants collection - by washing gas from refuse incinerators then removing pollutants by using adsorbent e.g. active coke

Harmful organic cpds, esp polyhalogenated aromatic cpds as found in exhaust gas from refuse incinerators, are removed by washing gas with circulated liq, from which the dissolved pollutants are then adsorbed. Suitable adsorbents eg active coke, other cokes and silicates like Kieselguhr may be finally dispersed in the washing liq or held in a bed incorporated in the circulation. Activated carbon may be used as a pre-coat filter. When process includes treatment of inorganic composites, the organic cpd adsorbent may be dispersed in the washing liq for inorganic cpds eg SO2 which also contain sulphate forming additives. Sulphates eg gypsum are removed using density differences or differential wetting properties as deciding factor. ADVANTAGE - Process is simple and cheap.
