The stator is fixed to a ring (3) which is joined to another ring (2) by resilient elements (4,5). To execute a step in rotation, movable connections (9) on the second ring (2) are supplied with tension, and after a delay the flexible connection part (12) drives the shaft against the spring force of the resilient elements (4,5). Movable connections on the stator contact the shaft before the others (9) are broken, holding it until the next step. ADVANTAGE - Considerable torque can be exerted in very small steps of relatively slow sequence, without backlash of conventional gearing.
