The shaft torsional-vibration damper has viscous fluid contained in a closed annular chamber formed by a disc (2) fixed to the shaft and an enclosing inertia ring split in a vertical plane and joined to the disc via rubber components (3, 3'). The ring is also divided in the horizontal direction into two washers (4C1, 4D1) gripping the disc between them via the rubber components, and inertia ring sections (4C2, 4D2) fitting onto them. The disc, rubber components and washers are joined together by vulcanisation, and the washers and ring sections by welding along their mating faces (a/c, b/d).
