899,073. Secondary batteries. YARDNEY INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION. June 30, 1958 [Nov. 26, 1957], No. 20951/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 53. An electrode, especially a zinc negative of a silver/zinc cell, comprises three layers of a swellable semi-permeable material (regenerated cellulose) sandwiching two layers of active material. The active material may have a copper wire support or a porous plate formed by spraying copper or copper/zinc alloy on to a base that may be retained. The zinc is sprayed on to the support but where the latter is a zinc rich copper/zinc alloy it may act as the active material. The other electrode is of finelydivided silver packed with glass wool. The object of the invention is to prevent the zinc electrode from disintegrating by absorbing dimensional changes by the swellable material. |
