PURPOSE:To produce a quenched, thin ferrosilicon strip of good shapes and superior magnetic properties by using molten steel added with Cr and others other than Si in a process for continuous production of a thin body by ejecting molten metal directly onto a surface of a cooling body. CONSTITUTION:Molten steel consisting, by weight %, of 2.0-8.0% Si, 0.05-2.0 Cr, if necessary, <=2.0 of >=1 kind of 0.05-1.0 Mo, 0.03-1.0 W, and 0.05- 1.0 each of V, Ti, Sn in total with Cr, and the balance Fe with impurities is quenched cooled and solidified by the above-described method. Here, if the thin strip comes in contact with air before it is cooled down sufficiently to required temp. on the surface of a moving cooling body, the Fe and Si on the surface of the thin strip are oxidized. The Cr is effective for prevention of their oxidation and at its lower limit or above, the molten metal flow stabilizes, and the thin strip of a silver white color of the surface and a good shape is obtained easily despite production in the atmospheric air. However, if the Cr is in excess of the upper limit, magnetical properties degrade, and the satd. magnetic flux density required for ferrosilicon is not satisfied. Here, the Mo, etc. have the effect of suppressing the surface oxidation of the thin strip more strongly. |
