PURPOSE:To apply the temp. gradient necessary for hot rolling to ingots with conserved energy by selectively heating the bottoms of the cut ingots, then turning over the ingots, conveying the ingots and, subjecting the edges to controlled heating and feeding the ingots to a hot rolling mill. CONSTITUTION:The ingots 2 ejected from a mold 1 of a continuous casting stage is subjected to steam cooling, then to unsolidification recuperation to form the hot ingots. While the hot ingots are cut by a cutting machine 6, the bottoms thereof are selectively heated by front and rear heaters 8, 9. The long- sized ingots 7 obtd. in such a manner are conveyed by a holding carriage 10 and are turned over by a turn table 11. The above-mentioned bottoms are thereby preceded and are fed into an edge heater 12. The edges of the ingots 7 are heated by heating blocks which can be respectively independently controlled; thereafter, the transverse central part is cooled by a transverse central cooler 15 at need. The optimum temp. profile for rolling is thereby applied to the above-mentioned ingots, then the ingots are passed through the hot rolling mill 13 to obtain desired finish products 14. |
