PURPOSE: To set high-temp. gas to be treated at a working temp. and to execute efficient exhaust gas purification by increasing the concn. of catalysis-prompting metal oxide gradually from the peripheral edge part to the central axis of a support. CONSTITUTION: An catalytically active component, such as metal oxide for promoting a catalysis, is deposited on the inert ceramic or metallic support through which parallel flow passages flow. At this time, the concn. of the catalysis-prompting metal oxide is increased gradually from the peripheral edge 1 to the central axis 2 of the support. When the support is positioned in the active component of the catalyst in such a manner, the reaction initiation temp. of the high-temp. gas to be treated may be lowered by about 15 deg.C with respect to carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon and to about 40 to 50 deg.C with respect to NOx. Then, the effective exhaust gas treatment may be executed. |
