PURPOSE:To obtain a highly efficient solid-state laser generating sum and difference frequencies wherein the setting of a resonator and the adjustment of incident light are simple, by directly pumping the end surface of laser active medium by using a pumping laser. CONSTITUTION:Pumping light 32 of frequency W0 generated from a semiconductor laser 16 for pumping is converged by use of a condenser lens system 20, and directly enters laser active medium 24. The laser active medium 24 excited by the pumping light 32 generates fundamental wave 34 of frequency W1, and an optical field is generated in a resonator 12. Fundamental wave 36 which is generated by a semiconductor laser 18 for generating fundamental wave and has a frequency W2 is converged by use of a condenser lens system 22, travels through a polarization beam splitter 28 and an output half mirror 30, and enters nonlinear optical crystal 26 so as to focus therein. Hence, in the nonlinear optical crystal 26, a sum frequency W1+W2 or a difference frequency W1-W2 are generated by use of the fundamental wave 34 of W1 and the fundamental wave 36 of frequency W2. Thereby the setting and adjustment of a resonator are simplified, and the sum frequency and the difference frequency can be effectively generated. |
