PURPOSE:To obtain a large amount of the title compound useful as an antitumor substance in high yield and industrially by culturing a dedifferentiated cell of plant of the genus Podophyllum and growing an obtained adventitious organ on a solid medium. CONSTITUTION:By culturing dedifferentiated cell or tissue of plant of the genus Podophyllum in a liquid medium, multiplication of the dedifferentiated cell or tissue and induction of adventitious organ are carried out and then the adventitious organ is grown on a solid medium to produce a compound of podophyllotoxins and the objective compound is collected. Preferably the liquid culture is carried out in the presence of auxin and cytokinin and the solid culture is performed in the absence of these substances. |
