PURPOSE:To ensure high bonding strength, superior flexibility, tensile strength and satisfactory transparentness for a plastic optical fiber sheet obtd. by melt- bonding sheaths to each other by forming the sheaths with a specified fluorine- contg. copolymer. CONSTITUTION:In a plastic optical fiber sheet consisting of cores 1 and sheaths 2 melt-bonded to each other, the sheaths 2 are practically formed with a fluorine-contg. copolymer consisting of 10-70wt.% monomer contg. a long chain fluoroalkyl group represented by formula I, 10-90wt.% monomer contg. a short chain fluoroalkyl group represented by formula II and 0-50wt.% other copolymerizable vinyl monomer. In the formulae I, II, Y is F, CH3 or CF3, X is F, H, CH3 or CF3, m is an integer of 1-4 and n is an integer of 5-11. The defects of the conventional product are eliminated and a high-grade optical fiber sheet is obtd. |
