PURPOSE: To achieve a wide range of applications as an actuator by setting the tip part of a piezoelectric element as a friction surface, supporting the opposite surface with a support component, and providing such control means as the transfer and activation of a drive force. CONSTITUTION: In a block 10 of a piezoelectric substance, a polarization direction P is in parallel with the surfaces of conductive electrodes 12 and 14, and the electrode 12 is maintained at zero potential. Also, by applying a positive potential V1 to the electrode 14, an electric field E that is perpendicular to the polarization direction P is formed. Then, all cutting surfaces, that are in parallel with the electric field E and are perpendicular to the polarization direction P, are subjected to a positive angle deformation θ (shear) about an axis that is perpendicular to a surface which includes vectors P and E. On the other hand, by applying an electric field in opposite direction, a shear with an opposite sign is generated. |
