PURPOSE:To perform recognition with high reliability in spite of the pattern of an object to be recognized by applying masking so as to set the area ratio of white level part to black level part of a reference image pattern at nearly 1:1, and computing the degree of correlation with an input image pattern. CONSTITUTION:The reference image pattern consisting of a white level and a black level is registered and stored in a reference image memory 7 in advance, and the reference image pattern is read out with an automatic mask generating part 10, and a mask in which the area ratio of white level part to black level part of the reference image pattern can be set at 1:1 is formed. A correlator 6 computes the degree of correlation of the reference image pattern with the input image pattern at a state where the mask is applied to the reference image pattern, and when the degree of correlation exceeds a threshold level, it is judged that the object 1 to be recognized is recognized with a recognition judging address calculation part 8, and the position of the pattern is calculated. In such a way, it is possible to perform the recognition with high reliability in spite of the pattern of the object to be recognized. |
